Please Help 77yo Navy Veteran Wiped Out By Devastating Scam

Emergency Relief: After sophisticated scammers stole his wife's life insurance payout and then his savings, a 77‑year‑old Navy vet needs help to stay afloat.

It is incredibly difficult to watch a man who spent his life protecting others become defenseless against modern financial predators.

My dad, Mitchell Gordon, served in the U.S. Navy from 1976 to 1996. On December 31, 2023, he lost his wife, Rochelle, after 47 beautiful years of marriage.

Just as he was trying to figure out how to live without her, a criminal syndicate targeted him. Using an AI deepfake video about government refunds and psychological manipulation, they convinced him he was accidentally over-refunded $20,000 (instead of $200), and that two FTC agents were now demanding he wire back the difference or face an IRS investigation and frozen accounts.

They terrified him into sending his life savings—$45,500—via a bank wire and Bitcoin Depot ATM transfers. Over three in-person bank visits, no red flags were raised as he drained his account. At a local Circle K, he fed 258 $100 bills into a Bitcoin Depot ATM one-at-a-time until $25,800 was gone, without a single safeguard triggering to stop him. The systems completely failed to protect a vulnerable senior.

The most painful part is that much of that money was Rochelle's life insurance payout, which was meant to secure his final years, but now the money is gone.

There is no way to get this money back. That's why the scammers use Bitcoin transfers and focus on states like Nevada, where lax regulations allow this. For a senior on a fixed income, this loss is devastating, and his bills will not wait.

While it would be miraculous if this fundraiser could recover the full $45,500 lost and restore his financial security, our immediate priority is covering his monthly expenses. Our first milestone is $9,000, and your donations will go directly toward:

  • Housing: Monthly expenses to keep a roof over his head.
  • Health & Wellness: Securing grocery and medical needs.
  • Transportation: To lunches at the senior center and doctor visits.

If you have it in your heart to please help a veteran who has lost so much, we would be eternally grateful.

A message from Mitchell: "The sadness of losing my wife was hard enough, but having the security she left behind stolen from me has left me devastated. I am humbly asking for a lifeline, and I appreciate every single person who helps me through this dark time. I want my story to save others. The AI videos on social media are traps, and the people on the phone are professionals at creating fear. Always talk to a trusted family member before you react."

Please remember: the government will never ask for a fee to process a refund, and if a website says they found money for you, it's probably a scam. Don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask your loved ones for advice—it's better to be safe than to lose everything.

Thank you for your kindness and support.
