Help My Father Receive Life-Saving Surgery in Thailand
Donation protected
My name is Ashley Giles, and I’m reaching out in a desperate plea for help. My dad, a British citizen and much-loved father and grandfather, is critically ill in a hospital in Thailand. He is currently fighting a severe infection that has rapidly spread to his heart, spine, and now wrist, caused by Group A Streptococcus (a dangerous and fast-moving bacteria).
He has worked his entire life as a Scaffolder (including power stations), contributing to the economy and providing a critical service. Unfortunately the physical nature of the works resulted in a double hip transplant a few years ago, forcing early retirement.
He was hoping to see out his retirement, with his wife, in a remote area of Thailand, to gain back some years of peace and quite, away from the noise and chaos that a power station can bring.
After days in intensive care, on a ventilator, and under high-dose IV antibiotics, his condition has stabilised — but we’ve just been told that urgent surgery is still needed to save his life. He now requires:
Heart surgery to remove or repair infected heart tissue
Surgery on his wrist to drain infection that has spread through his bloodstream
Possibly further spinal procedures if the infection progresses
My father has lived in Thailand for several years as an expat. Unfortunately, due to pre-existing health issues, he has no insurance, and cannot access NHS care unless we get him safely home — something we are currently not able to do in his condition.
Costs to date total ฿700000 (approx. £16000 - i have shared a photo for transparency in regards to ongoing costs)
The cost of both surgeries and hospital care has been quoted at ฿1,000,000 (Approx. £22,000).
We are doing everything we can to raise funds as a family, but are looking for as much help as possible as we cannot cover these costs alone.
We are looking to achieve £50,000 to cover current, ongoing, and recovery costs.
Your donation will go directly toward:
Surgery and hospital costs in Thailand
Post-operative care, medication, and monitoring
If recovery goes well we are hoping to get him stabilised and bring him home to the UK
Any amount will bring us one step closer to giving my father the chance to survive and recover. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this page so we can reach as many people as possible.
Thanks in advance and fingers crossed.
I'll post updates as often as i can. I will be flying over there to support in the next 24 hours.
