My father owns a business in Belleville, New Jersey, and on May 6, 2026, he received a call on his day off that changed everything. His business, along with others in the same building, was on fire. The cause is still unknown, but the fire completely destroyed his business—one of his biggest goals in life. He had worked for years to open his own business, and just two years ago, he finally achieved that dream. Now, in a matter of hours, it was all gone.
My dad has always been the sole provider for our family. He worked in the mattress industry for over 20 years, and his business was our main source of income. He worked long hours, even on holidays and when he was sick, to make sure we had everything we needed. Losing the business means losing the stability he worked so hard to give us. All the machinery, materials, and equipment that he had worked to buy slowly over the years—often expensive and purchased one by one as he saved up—are now gone. Every bit of income he worked so hard for went into building up his business, and now everything he needed to keep it running has been lost in the fire. We are devastated and unsure how we will recover, but we know we want to help my dad rebuild what he worked so hard for.
