I am reaching out to you today with a heavy heart and a plea for help.
What was supposed to be a joyous visit to Australia to spend time with family turned into a living nightmare. Shortly after arriving, my father, Y Koteswar Rao, fell critically ill. A severe lung infection took hold of him, and he was rushed into the ICU.
For 15 days, we watched him fight for every breath. While the doctors in Australia have worked tirelessly to save his life, the damage to his lungs is severe. The infection has caused irreversible scarring (hardening of the lung tissue), and we have been given the news no child wants to hear: my father will now require permanent oxygen support for the rest of his life.
The Crisis: He is Stranded
Because he is oxygen-dependent and in a fragile state, he cannot fly on a standard commercial airplane. His condition requires a specialized Medical Evacuation—a flight equipped with ICU-grade equipment and a medical team to monitor his breathing every second.
Right now, my father is thousands of miles away from home. Every day he remains in a foreign hospital, the medical bills grow higher, and the emotional toll on our family increases. Our only wish is to bring him back to India where he can receive long-term care surrounded by the people who love him.
The Goal
The cost of an international air ambulance and the specialized medical transport from Australia to India is over $100,000 This is an unforeseen expense that is far beyond our family’s reach.
