Writing this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I’ve always taken pride in providing for my family, but when your livelihood is gone and your loved ones are suffering, pride has to take a back seat.
On February 24th, I underwent what I thought would be a routine hip replacement. Everything seemed fine until I was suddenly hit with unbearable pain. By April 1st, I was admitted to the hospital, where doctors discovered two DVT blood clots, an abscess, and a serious MSSA staph infection.
To save my health, I had to undergo two major surgeries back-to-back: first, a hip revision to remove the infected implant, followed two days later by a knee revision to remove that implant as well.
Currently, I am in a skilled nursing and rehab facility. My journey is far from over—I still have three weeks of intensive antibiotic treatment ahead of me, followed by two more total replacement surgeries (hip and knee) once the infection is cleared. I’ve been told I won’t be able to return to work until October at the earliest.
While my wife is working incredibly hard and I am receiving long-term disability, it is only a small fraction of our normal income. We are doing everything in our power to stay afloat, but the reality is that we cannot keep up with the mounting medical bills while also covering our mortgage, utilities, and groceries for our family.
We aren’t asking for help because we’ve given up; we’re asking because we’ve exhausted every other option. My family deserves to stay afloat while I fight my way back to being healthy.
