After more than a year in tents, suffering from hunger, cold, and rain, January arrived—it was time to go home. The journey took half a day on foot. The children, carrying their few belongings, were in shock at the destruction. Terrified by the sounds around them, they held hands, afraid of getting lost like so many others. Yet, they clung to a small hope—they were finally returning home.
But their street was in ruins. Sama stood frozen at the sight of her school, now rubble. When they reached their home, they found it nearly destroyed—most of their belongings stolen or ruined by the rain. They lost contact with us for over a week, with no water, electricity, or basic necessities. They were left in despair, struggling to grasp the reality of their loss.
We had started a gofundme previously, and even achieved more than 50% of our goal. We had hoped that when there was enough money, my sister and her family could evacuate, and we were even close to it! But to our dispair, we learned that Rafah crossing was closed, and that evacuation money turned unto survival funds instead. And now, we have to start from scratch again.
Despite our difficult circumstances, an idea came to our minds—my sister, our mother, and I—to design a food cart. This way, when the parents come here to help us with work, the children can regain a little of their daily routine, and get help to deal with all that trauma they have experienced. We are asking for your support to build our kiosk for a fresh start for us and our family.
