My name is Aundrea, and I am reaching out for help for myself and my family after Typhoon Sinlaku devastated our home in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Currently, I am living 5,000 miles away in Oregon, and I do not have the financial means to buy a flight home or cover my expenses while I am gone. My family has lost our home—nothing survived the storm. My mom and grandma are now homeless, with no food or gas to return and clean up what remains. My grandma is retired and barely makes a living with her retirement funds. Due to the power outages and flooding, all government jobs are put on hold, and if my mom does return to work, there will be no one to clear out what remains of our home, as she will need to report to work, and my grandmother is an elderly woman who should not be removing building debris in general.
The funds raised will go directly toward helping set up my mom and grandmother in temporary housing. We also need support for food, gas, hygiene essentials, and resources to clean up and hopefully rebuild our home. The aftermath of Typhoon Sinlaku has left the entire island in a state of emergency, with broken power lines and massive flooding. Federal Aid may not be able to start relief assistance until the environment is more stable, so immediate help is crucial.
This is my first time creating a GoFundMe, and I am overwhelmed by the situation. I am extremely appreciative of any donations and support. Even though I am far away, I am doing everything I can to help my family recover and stay safe. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference in our lives, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
