Help my families&friends recover after tsunami

Hi there,

My name is Mele Loketi Wiebe. I live in Sweden with my husband and three kids. My parents live in Tonga with six of my siblings as well as my 75th year old grandmother.

 

I’m sure everyone has heard about the huge eruption of Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai last Saturday evening the 15th in my homeland Tonga. As a result of the eruption, a volcanic mushroom plume was released reaching the stratosphere and extending radially covering all Tonga Islands, generating tsunami waves rising up to 15 meters, hitting the west coasts of Tongatapu Islands (the main Island) as well as the outer Islands.

 

Due to the damage, the submarine cable is severed so all the phone lines are down along with the internet. Water supplies have been seriously affected by the volcanic ash. Many houses were destroyed and some were completely damaged. Some of the plantations where most families get their income by selling crops and vegetables were completely wiped out.

 

It’s been five days now and I haven’t get a hold anyone in my family. I know my parents and my grandma are okay because they live in Vava’u one of the Outer Islands that wasn’t affected by the tsunami. My concerned is based on three of my siblings. They live with their families in the main island where the tsunami hits. I can’t sleep and feeling hopeless thinking about them and my friends with their families.

 

Here I am asking for your donations to help my family, relative and friends recover after this disaster. If you live in Auckland, New Zealand you can donate clothing, blankets, food and water to my relative resident in ‘Onehanga. They bought 40-foot container to put all the necessities and ship it to Tonga on the 7th of February, 2022.
