My family’s life changed in an instant when we were hit by a drunk driver. What followed was a series of challenges we never could have prepared for—hospital bills piled up, we lost our jobs because we couldn’t work, and eventually, we lost our home. We had to make difficult choices just to get by, including moving into a new home that needs a lot of work, and relying on cheaper food to stretch every dollar. There were times we had to get food from local churches and borrow money just to survive. All of this happened because of one person’s reckless actions, and yet they faced no consequences, while we are left to pick up the pieces.

During the accident, my husband slammed on the brakes, and that’s the reason our daughter is alive today. I am so grateful for his quick thinking in that terrifying moment. Our children were in the car with us that day, and while people say we’re lucky to have survived, the truth is we’re still fighting every day to survive the aftermath.

We’re hoping to use any support we receive to pay off the vehicle we had to get so we don’t lose our only means of transportation and work again, and cover the bills that have been weighing us down. More than anything, I want to give my family a sense of peace and stability after so much struggle.
