The fire forced my mom, step dad, three sisters, two brothers, and their three cats to leave their home with only the clothes they were wearing. What made the situation even more unsettling was that the apartment complex's sprinkler system didn't activate, and there was no water in the building. Firefighters had to connect their hoses from down the street to fight the blaze.
