Hello! My name is Lallane Guiao-Seng. I was born and raised in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Recently, a category 5 typhoon hit my home island of Saipan. This is the 3rd typhoon of this magnitude to hit the Marianas in 10 years. Typhoon Sinlaku was absolutely devastating. With a width of 450 miles, traveling at 4 mph, it wreaked havoc for three days straight and was relentless.
Now, the people of my island will have to pick up the pieces, literally. They are strong and resilient, but only because they have to be. The reality is that they have limited resources and infrastructure. They are still rebuilding from a previous typhoon. This is the truth of being a remote island territory in the Pacific. They will go without running water and power for weeks to months. This is nothing new for them. I personally know this story.
My family members, uncles, cousins, aunts, have lost their homes. They lost everything. Pictures and videos do not do the storm’s wrath justice. It was a blood bath. My older son lives with them and he experienced his bedroom windows shattering and the fear of being swept up by the storm. And I am helpless to do anything for them, while I am here in Connecticut pursuing law with the hopes that I might one day be able to better serve the community. For now, I’ll be their voice and make sure they’re heard.

The Marianas contributes the smallest to climate change and yet, they suffer the most. They matter. They exist. They need your help.
I am kindly asking for your donation to help my family rebuild. This not only includes my immediate family, but also my extended family. They will need water, non-perishable food, generators, fuel, candles, mosquito coils, basic necessities to get them through and whatever else they need to survive this. On an island where this is all so limited, every little bit means something.
Any contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference.
Please ease the load for them.
