My name is Kaylynn Griffin, and I am a single mother of three children. I am writing to plead for help after losing everything in a devastating fire that turned into a flood. On May 27th, a small grease fire started in the kitchen while I was at work, and my children were home with their grandmother. My 13-year-old tried to put out the fire with water, which inadvertently activated the faulty sprinkler system, causing a pipe to burst and flood our apartment, destroying everything I worked so hard for.

This tragedy has left my family without a home and in an urgent and vulnerable situation. I am employed part-time, working full-time hours as a single mom with no help. Normally, I wouldn’t ask for assistance, but I am at a loss for how to recover from such a detrimental loss. We have been living in our home for three years, and it was the only home the four of us have known. We accumulated so much, and everything we had was destroyed in the flood or by the workers repairing the apartment. Without rental insurance, I am responsible for replacing everything we lost, including our furniture and clothes. The complex terminated my lease, and we have since been displaced.

I have reached out to every source for help, and this is my final plea. I am not afraid of hard work and often work too much, but my goal is to provide my children with a new home and a fresh start.
