I’m Stefania, and I’m creating this GoFundMe because platforms like this aren’t available in Romania. I want to raise awareness and support for my family in Bucharest, Romania, who went through a tragedy I can hardly put into words. On October 17, 2025, a massive gas explosion destroyed their apartment building, tragically taking lives and leaving many others injured. My grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousin lost everything — their home, belongings, and sense of security — and are now struggling to find safety, stability, and hope in the aftermath of this disaster.

The government plans to rebuild the building but expects families to pay rent for their own apartments — apartments they worked decades to own outright. This is heartbreaking and unjust, especially for families like mine who lost everything through no fault of their own, and many have no insurance because of corruption and systemic failures. It's not right that they must suffer again after losing everything.

Currently, my family and others who lost their homes have been relocated to a hotel temporarily, but their stay will only last a few days, and after that, they will have nowhere to go. I can’t imagine the fear, uncertainty, and desperation they are feeling. They deserve safety, dignity, and a chance to rebuild their lives.

A Message from my cousin Florin (Translated from Romanian):

October 17, 2025 – a day my family and I will never forget (The Rahova Disaster).

A day when my grandparents’ lives changed completely. In an instant, they lost everything they had built over a lifetime — their home, their peace, their safety, and their smiles. All their years of work and love were destroyed because of the negligence of people who ignored the real warnings of others. Sadly, it seems that the lives and safety of people have become too small a price to pay for some…

It’s heartbreaking to see my grandparents, aged 74 and 76, so helpless, trying to gather their strength and move forward. They lived in the building part of a beautiful, close-knit community where everyone knew each other for years. Now, that sense of belonging has vanished.

Every day, we relive the same pain. The only moment of comfort they have is when they meet other neighbors in the courtyard of Dimitrie Bolintineanu High School, where they share words of encouragement and try to stay strong.

For now, they have temporary housing for a few days in a hotel provided by the government, but after that, they’ll have nowhere to go. We don’t know what will happen, and they will need to figure out how to cover their own expenses and rebuild their lives.

I can only answer that they are two kind, gentle people who have never asked anyone for anything.

My grandmother loves flowers and always kept her windows filled with flowerpots, made compotes, pickles, and jams — small but meaningful things done with love. My grandfather supported her in everything. Now, all of that is just a memory.

All I want is safety and stability for my grandparents.

Vreau să atrag atenția și să strâng sprijin pentru familia mea din București, România, care a trecut printr-o tragedie greu de descris în cuvinte. Pe 17 octombrie 2025, o explozie masivă de gaz a distrus blocul în care locuiau, ucigând oameni și lăsând mulți răniți. Bunicii mei, mătușa, unchiul și vărul meu și-au pierdut totul — casa, bunurile și siguranța — și se luptă acum să găsească siguranță, stabilitate și speranță după această tragedie.

Guvernul plănuiește să reconstruiască blocul, dar cere familiilor să plătească chirie pentru propriile apartamente — apartamente pe care le-au câștigat cu decenii de muncă și sacrificii. Este devastator și nedrept, mai ales pentru familii ca a mea, care și-au pierdut totul fără vina lor, iar multe dintre ele nu au asigurare din cauza corupției și a sistemului defectuos. Nu este corect ca ei să mai sufere după ce au pierdut totul.

În prezent, familia mea și alte familii care și-au pierdut casele au fost relocate temporar într-un hotel, dar șederea lor va dura doar câteva zile, iar după aceea vor rămâne fără loc. Nu îmi pot imagina frica, incertitudinea și disperarea prin care trec. Ei merită siguranță, demnitate și o șansă de a-și reconstrui viața.

Vă cer cu umilință ajutorul.

Fiecare donație — chiar și 1 dolar — îi va ajuta să găsească un loc sigur pentru cazare, să înlocuiască lucrurile de bază pierdute și să facă primii pași spre refacerea vieții lor. Chiar și distribuirea acestei povești poate face o diferență uriașă. Voi trimite toate fondurile direct familiei mele din România, astfel că fiecare contribuție merge direct către ajutorarea lor. 17 octombrie 2025 – o zi pe care eu și familia mea nu o vom uita niciodată (Dezastrul din Rahova).

O zi în care viața bunicilor mei s-a schimbat complet. Într-o clipă, au pierdut tot ce au construit o viață întreagă: locuința, liniștea, siguranța și zâmbetul. Toată munca și dragostea lor s-a năruit din cauza nepăsării unor oameni care au ignorat semnalele reale ale altora.

Este sfâșietor să-mi privesc bunicii, la 74 și 76 de ani, neputincioși, încercând să-și adune puterile și să meargă mai departe. Locuiau în bloc, într-o comunitate frumoasă, cu vecini buni și respectuoși. Acum, acel sentiment de apartenență a dispărut.

În fiecare zi retrăim aceeași durere. Singurul lor moment de alinare este atunci când se întâlnesc cu vecinii în curtea Liceului Teoretic „Dimitrie Bolintineanu”, unde își oferă încurajări și speranță.

În prezent, au cazare temporară pentru câteva zile într-un hotel, plătit de guvern, dar după aceea vor rămâne fără loc. Nu știm ce va urma și vor trebui să își găsească singuri resurse pentru a-și acoperi cheltuielile și a-și reconstrui viața.

Pot doar să răspund că sunt doi oameni buni, cu suflet mare, care nu au cerut niciodată nimic.

Bunica mea iubește florile și avea geamurile pline de ghivece, făcea compoturi, murături și gemuri — lucruri simple, dar pline de dragoste. Bunicul o susținea mereu. Acum toate acestea sunt doar amintiri.

Tot ce-mi doresc este siguranță și stabilitate pentru bunicii mei.
