Help my family move forward after an accident.

Help my family get back on their feet after a horrific crash.

My mum, step dad, little sister and foster brothers need help to move forward after a terrifying accident has left them without a family car, and with injuries that will take months to recover from.

Mum and Tristan have big hearts, and together with my little sister, Belle, they have 2 gorgeous little boys, both with additional needs, that they have fostered since January 2020. These boys are part of their hearts and lives as much as my little sister is.

On Monday morning, the 24th of May, just before 8am, Mum was driving the boys to daycare and pre-school. It was a morning with thick fog, so Mum wasn't keen on going too fast. A few minutes after turning onto Waterfall Way, through the fog, Mum saw a truck trying to correct the severely swinging back trailer. Feeling very afraid it might hit the car, Mum slowed down and moved as far left as possible, but to her horror, the trailer had come loose and was headed straight for them. Collision was imminent.

When Mum came round, she instantly panicked for the boys, her babies, who she could not hear. Struggling, she turned around and was relieved to hear the sweetest sound- 2 little boys now screaming their lungs out. They were alive!

Mum had to get out of the car, which was difficult. The seatbelt was wedged beneath her as the car was on a great lean. But she managed to undo herself, and tried the door, which opened, but not very wide. Mum climbed out of the car, but only made it about as far as the passenger door when she dropped to the ground, shaking, and in great pain. Some blood came from her nose and mouth, her neck and chest hurt, and her knee and ankle were in searing pain.

Crying, Mum stayed on the ground, listening to the boys screams, unable to help them, until a few minutes later when a car approached. Mum waved to them from where she lay. This first responder ran up to Mum, asked if she was ok, then phoned emergency services.

After him, several more cars stopped and ran to mum and the boys. The 5th car was my step dad, Tristan, who had to see his wife and boys in and around a mangled wreck.

Mum and the boys were taken to Armidale Rural Referral hospital. There, X-rays and CT scans showed Mum had sustained 2 broken feet, one severely damaged, and a fractured ankle. Mum also has significant soft tissue damage to her left knee. Her surgery is scheduled for this Friday, where surgeons will attempt to rectify the mess of shattered bones on the top of her left foot, and repair her left ankle with a plate. The right foot has a minor break below a toe, but is causing extreme difficulty for Mum with mobility.

My sweet little 18month old foster brother has a broken arm. In 3 weeks, hospital will check if it is healing. If it isn't, he has to be transferred to John Hunter in Newcastle for surgery.

And my little 4 year old foster brother was, and still is in shock. When we took him home after his hospital discharge, he was traumatised by the car, and panicked when we drove past a truck.

Third party insurance will not cover the damages, so my family is without a car. My step dad will have to step back from work to help Mum and the boys rehibilitate. I have taken 2 weeks of unpaid leave to help out, but sadly, I cannot stay past this.

Please, help our a family who deserve a good break! Every little bit helps.

Thank you for your generosity and hearts!
