Hi everyone, my name is Erica, and I’m writing this from the UK with a really heavy heart. My 80-year-old mum in Jamaica has just lost her home after Hurricane Melissa tore through the island. She’s a widow and has lived in that house her whole life but now it’s completely destroyed.

The storm ripped the entire roof off, flooded every room, and left her standing in what’s left of her home. Everything is soaked, her furniture is ruined, and most of her belongings have been washed away.

My mum is trying so hard to stay strong, but she’s scared, tired, in shock and heartbroken that the home she loves and worked hard to achieve has been destroyed . It breaks my heart that I can’t be there with her in person, so I’m doing the only thing I can from here which is asking for help.

I’ve started this fundraiser to help rebuild her home and get her the basics she needs such as a roof and structure, plumbing and electrical works, windows, furniture, white goods, food, clothes, and some comfort while she tries to start over.
