In October, while many enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean weather with their loved ones, my family in Gaza experiences a different reality altogether. They haven't had the chance to witness the beauty of falling tree leaves or the vibrant colors of autumn. Instead, they endure the gut-wrenching horrors of war and genocide.

My family of innocent civilians is caught in the crossfire. They have witnessed countless wars, but this latest conflict has left them absolutely shattered. Their once-safe homes have been reduced to dirt and bricks, their livelihoods which was a dessert shop is destroyed, and the very concept of safety has become a distant memory. In the chaos and devastation, there is no refuge to be found in Gaza.

To escape this nightmare, they desperately seek passage through Rafah's gate to Egypt, where they can find freedom from the constant attacks of military weapons and bombs. However, the cost of freedom is exorbitant — a staggering $30,000 USD, a sum my family simply cannot afford.

Among them are my aunt and uncle, two cousins, and their young 2 year old child, whose lives hang in the balance. Every moment they remain in Gaza is filled with danger, every breath they take a gamble with their very existence.
