Save Basel and His Family in Gaza Help in finding a safe

Hello,

My name is Basel, and I'm from the beleaguered Gaza Strip. Before the war, I worked as a video editor for a company. Although my monthly salary was only $250, life was much better compared to the current situation during the war.

Describing the past four months of my life in Gaza as a nightmare would be an understatement. Everything has changed. My family - my wife, our five-year-old daughter, and myself - have been deprived of every basic human right imaginable. We have witnessed our dreams, our health, our futures, and our lives deteriorate as we endure a constant barrage of rockets raining down around us, never knowing if each one will be our last.

On the night of December 12th, my family and I were sound asleep in our home when our residential area was hit by what we believe was a tank shell. It shattered through our windows, walls, and ceiling, leaving us in terror. We hastily fled to the staircase and spent the night in agony, unable to sleep amidst the explosions and fighting nearby.

In the morning, we were forced to leave our home abruptly, taking only our identification papers, money, and the clothes on our backs. For nearly two months, we were unable to find a safe place to settle. We sought refuge at relatives' houses, moving from one to another. Then, on December 20th, a day that still haunts me, the place where we were staying was bombed with more than three rockets while I was out to buy food. Miraculously, my daughter and wife escaped, but my daughter was left traumatized by the experience.

Subsequently, we found shelter in a metal storage facility on Saladin Street. The conditions were dire, with some of us sleeping in the open for three days. Due to the intense airstrikes on Salah Al-Din Street, we sought refuge in Rafah and slept outdoors. For two days, the sky was our roof until we managed to set up a tent to shield us from the scorching sun and biting cold.

While in Rafah, I walk for hours to access the internet. On January 1st, I received a message from a friend informing me that my house in Al-Bureij refugee camp had been completely destroyed by bombing.

I have been overwhelmed by despair and helplessness for days. I waited for a ceasefire to gather basic necessities or return to what remained of my home.

I now turn to you for help, as a last resort. I hesitated to ask for assistance earlier for various reasons, but now I realize that I cannot bear this burden alone. Whether you donate or share my story with others, I cannot express enough gratitude. Your support has provided me with comfort during my darkest moments. I hope you can find it in your hearts to help me and my family one last time.

With love,
Basel
