Jesse Barrera Castro On Tuesday morning bright and early my brother-in-law, Jesse, was on his way to finish out 11th grade when he was struck. Jesse was pulling out of the entrance of our mobile home community when he was T-Boned on the drivers side of his car. His brother, Casey, was on his way to work just a minute behind him. Thankfully, Casey was able to stay by his side until medics were there to help. Jesse’s car was severely damaged and required the Jaws of Life to get him out. Jesse had started working at a restaurant as a dishwasher and was working his way into the kitchen! Between school, his work at the restaurant and helping with his 2 younger brothers and 2 nephews, Jesse diligently saved up to buy his own car! What he didn’t know was that the car’s airbags were damaged. Because of this, they did not go off on impact. Jesse was left crushed by metal, breaking his hip & pelvis and dislocating multiple ribs. Once he got to the hospital they found that his stomach ended up lodged in his chest, prompting an emergency surgery - ending with a tube in his stomach. On Wednesday, Jesse had time to rest and was able to visit with family. Thursday morning it was back to the surgical room for his hip for screws and repair. The surgeries have gone well, though Jesse has a long recovery ahead of him. He will be spending the next few weeks in the hospital and physical therapy before he can come home. Once he is discharged he will spend a minimum of 3 months wheelchair bound while his body heals. I’m asking for help for my family. Jesse will be completely out of work, and his parents will miss a significant amount of time to help Jesse get to and from his appointments as well as everything his recovery will entail. On top of day-to-day living expenses, the medical bills and eventually replacing Jesse’s vehicle, they will be needing to hire a house nurse to come and check on Jesse as he will not be able to move for a while. And they will need to make their house wheelchair accessible. Please keep my family in your prayers, Jesse will need all the love and support we can give him. This is not how he imagined his last summer before Senior Year would be spent. Any donation you are able to give is greatly appreciated, no matter the amount.
