Help my family and neighbours after storm Ciaran
Donation protected
Hi everyone, Me and my family were one of the families that were badly affected by storm ciaran last Wednesday here in Jersey Channel Islands.
We’re currently staying in emergency accommodation which has been kindly funded by the government for six days however the funding from the government ended this Monday lunchtime, and now we are paying for everything until we are hopefully reimbursed. There is so much our neighbourhood and my family have gone through in the last week it’s hard to really put into words. Me and several other friends near where I live have been declared homeless and are staying in emergency accommodation with one of my friends having to leave her home altogether as her roof fell down.
We are unsure how long we will be able to stay here for and things have been very stressful as you can imagine. We were in St Clements in our family home, which was the place that the tornado formed and hit the ground, the whole house started to rumble and shake, my sisters and mum were shouting, and we heard the house starting to fall apart. My little sister who has just turned 18 was very scared. Our windows were broken by the debris of I think the neighbours shed roof that went flying? And the 50 foot fence from fb fields that fell down into our garden smashing our bathroom window completely was one of the main crashes that we heard to begin with which shook the entire house. Our whole line of trees in front of our house have gone, this used to be a beautiful thing to see especially on sunny days from the front side of the house, my mums car was hit by debris and has been written off.
Alongside the damage that’s happened to the windows, and the chimney, the shed and shalle roof coming clean off and the brick wall having fallen down leaving a huge hole in the shed, the roof is so damaged that the attic has had to be moved of all its belongings and there has been severe leaking making the house very unsafe. Our garden has been completely destroyed and this was a place my mum used to find so much peace in and has worked on for 10+ years. My mum is currently still working amidst being 60 years old and having dealt with the death of our dad a few years ago. And she is now having to deal with the government representees, insurance people, and an array of other agencies all by herself. I currently work, but work part time due to health reasons, both of my sisters work as well, and my little sister also has health issues and any stress such as this does affect her health quite badly. My little sister is introverted and a real homebody, the loss of our home for several months going forward (as long as we can salvage it) has been severely stressful for her, my other sister has only just recently got back from travelling and was happy to be back home up until this.
I would really appreciate any help anyone can put our way. I don’t want to stress my mum out more by asking her how much she needs help with re emergency accommodation, food, emergency repairs for the damages, but I am just making an estimate for temporary funds at the moment.
I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for any help you can give us at all.
Our line of houses has been all over the news as our parish is where the tornado formed and hit the ground as mentioned earlier. The photos I’ve linked do not even start to portray the fear and continuing trauma we have experienced and the damage that occurred to our house and many of the other houses on our street. But I have attached some general photos and some before and after photos so you can get some idea.
This is what our house used to look like (I could only find a photo from Google earth as I didn’t used to take photos of the outside of our house)
And this is the house after the storm:

And this is our line of houses after the storm and the wreckage that's been left (as seen on sky news):
This is also a close up of our garden and house from the side that was worst hit: (our house is the middle house)
This is a close up photo of our line of our neighbours houses and you can see a small part of our house on the left:
Another before and after of the line of trees outside our house:
And some photos from the night of the tornado when the trees from this road fell down and were blocking people off
And here are some photos of the tennis courts accross the way from us and fb fields on the other side of us:
And here are some further photos I took of the shed wall and bricks that fell down, you can also see where the shed roof came off in one of the pictures and the shalle roof in another picture, alongside a picture of one of the windows that has been smashed in the house and the 50ft fence that fell stretching accross the garden: apologies for the poor pictures it was hard to take them at nighttime.
And just to have an idea of what the garden used to look like, here is a photo of my Dad and niece in the garden in the summer a few years years before the storm, and how beautiful it used to be: (you can also see the fb fields fence in the background)
And once again any help at all that you can give would be greatly appreciated. I also intend to give any left over funds to friends that need it for storm repairs or anything else related to the storm, and neighbours.
Thanks for reading everyone
