Help My Family and I Rebuild Our Life Again

Mahmoud Abdelal, a dedicated 44-year-old Biomedical Engineer from Gaza Strip, Palestine, has faced unimaginable challenges due to the ongoing conflict. His life, once filled with dreams of peace and stability for his family, has been shattered by the relentless horrors of war.

His Experience in the War:

During the escalating conflict, on October 27 specifically, a single missile strike tragically killed 18 of his cousins, their spouses, and children. This devastating event has left his family and himself deeply traumatized. He has witnessed their neighboring home being destroyed and helped recover their torn remains from the rubble haunted by the inability to retrieve the bodies of four children and their mother. Since then, he's been constantly on the move, searching for safety and peace.

Impact on His Family:

Mahmoud's family includes his wife and their seven children – three daughters and four sons. Their youngest, Othman, is only two years old and has already endured nine months of harshness, displacement, fear, epidemics, diseases, hunger, and a severe lack of basic hygiene necessities due to the ongoing war. His eldest daughter, Fatima, is in her second year of college studying artificial intelligence. She married shortly before the war and gave birth during its second month under extremely challenging and dangerous circumstances. Because of the war's intensity, Mahmoud could only see her and her child a few times. Ibrahim, his son, was set to complete his secondary education this year and pursue university. Meanwhile, his daughters Saja and Hala are in their first and second years of high school, respectively. Ahmed, another son, is in the fifth grade, and Mohammed, his youngest son, started first grade just a month before the war began. All of Mahmoud's children excel academically and possess a strong passion for learning. Unfortunately, the war has disrupted an entire academic year for them, shattering their hopes of continuing their education as all schools, universities, and kindergartens have been destroyed.

Mahmoud's Personal Struggles:

In recent times, his strength has collapsed, and he has become severely exhausted both physically and mentally. He has lost hope in life and everything after losing everything he owns. A few weeks ago, he received the news that his three-story house had been destroyed and became uninhabitable. It is incredibly painful to lose home, the place of memories, the place that shelters me and my family. Before this, in March of this year, he lost his small business headquarter, warehouse, and all the goods inside when Al-Shifa Hospital and the surrounding buildings on its northern side were destroyed. This company, which he founded almost a year before this cursed war, operated in the field of supplying medical equipment and supplies. He has invested large sums, exceeding USD $224,000, in setting it up and importing medical equipment and supplies. But unfortunately, everything was lost – the company building, all its contents, and even his personal car was not spared from the destruction. The total value of my destroyed assets exceeds USD $398,000.

It is extremely painful and devastating for him to see all his dreams, which he worked tirelessly for over 20 years, evaporate before your eyes without any fault or shortcoming on your part.

Current Situation:

He and his family, including his senior Mother, currently live in a small tent made from wood and black plastic, often used in agricultural greenhouses. They've moved five times during the war (from Gaza City to Al-Maghazi, Al-Nuseirat, Khan Younis, Rafah, and back to Al-Nuseirat), enduring severe bombings, fire belts, and constant fear. They've faced deprivation, hunger, harsh weather (freezing cold, heavy rains, extreme heat), and suffered from food shortage, and insect bites. Accessing medicine, clean water, and nutritious food has been extremely difficult, and their injuries struggle to heal due to inadequate protein in their diet.

My Appeal for Help:
Mahmoud has decided to flee Gaza to a safer place, and I desperately need your support to take my family to safety and start all over again. Each member of his family, including his mother, and his daughter's family (12 people), needs USD $10,000 each to cross the Rafah border to Egypt, covering travel, accommodation costs, and obtaining new passports to replace those lost in his destroyed home. The total amount needed is $120,000, plus the necessary site fees.

Thank you for taking the time to read his story. Your generosity and support can make a huge difference and help him and his family escape the horrors of war to a place where they can live in peace and rebuild their lives.

With heartfelt gratitude,
