Help my Disabled Veteran Dad get an E-bike

https://www.ti-trikes.com/ My name is Jen Eichorst, and I am Scott Hosler’s daughter. I am fundraising to help get my dad either a 3 or 4-wheel electric bike. Finding outdoor activities for him to do while feeling like he’s “breathing through a straw” is tough! That’s why I’m here, and I hope you can help!

A few words about my dad before I tell you his story… He is a good, kind man who gave 16 years to the US Navy, retiring as a Chief at the end of his service. He’s the type of guy who would do anything for you. He’s an incredible listener and gives the best advice, just as a dad should. He is pragmatic and resourceful. My dad is a loving and attentive husband to his wonderful wife. He’s the guy who stacks the plates at the end of the meal when we are out to eat, to make it easier on the server when it’s time clear the table. He’s the type of guy who thanks every Veteran for their service as he’s passing by. He’s the type of guy who is happiest when the people he loves are happy. He’s the epitome of a “giver.”

Back in October of 2020, my dad chose “early retirement” when his job was outsourced. A time for celebration quickly turned into a time for concern. A few short weeks after retiring, he began having serious breathing issues. Within a couple of weeks, the VA Clinic and VA Hospital diagnosed him with Stage Four Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer, coupled with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). The ILD has recently been reassessed, and he’s now diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. The initial Lung Biopsy resulted in a collapsed lung and a 12-day hospital stay to recover. The Oncologists at the VA Hospital estimated he had 6 months to live. What horrible news to absorb and live with, especially being newly retired.

It's now been approximately 18 months since the diagnosis, and ten months beyond the life expectancy. Yay! Every day is to be celebrated! My dad’s life looks and feels different than he expected, but he is living a new, happy life with significant limitations. He can no longer golf, bowl, play pickle-ball, or do any activity that requires even the slightest exertion. He is finding solace and motivation in old hobbies he’s renewing. Photography is a passion, albeit a novice-level endeavor. He loves nature photography. To get “to nature”, he needs a sturdy means of reliable and stable transportation to get off the beaten path.

He cannot expend the level of energy required for a bicycle, and doesn’t really have the core strength anymore to even balance on a 2-wheel E-bike. There is a 4-wheel bike that he would love to have, but they are expensive given the incorporated technologies.

The Warrior Riders Quad Off Road, called the Ti Trikes. It is powered by “battery assist” and is designed like a recumbent bike. It’s strong, sturdy, and provides exactly the “power assist” mode of transportation to get him to his location to be with nature and take pictures.

Please help me and give what you can to help this old sailor out. It would mean so much to be able to get my dad into one of these 3 or 4-wheel e-bikes. He and his wife are on a fixed income and drawing only his monthly disability. They augment their income with their savings while they wait to maximize their social security benefits.

Can you imagine working so hard to get to retirement, and your "normal" activities seize a month later? This e-bike will allow my dad to go out for a “stroll” to socialize with his neighbors or ride along a nature trail, soaking up the sun and snapping pictures along the way. These simple pleasures will improve his quality of life and continue to inspire and motivate him. Just like my dad, I'm happiest when the people I love are happy...and this would make him so happy!
