Help My Disabled Father Stay Housed.

Hello, I am Mason, and my father's name is Troy Lindsey. Last year, we were able to crowdfund money to pay for his expenses during an amputation of his foot. Unfortunately, he needs help again.

In the past few weeks, my father was diagnosed with Charcot foot/ankle disease, a brittle bone and neuropathy condition that developed after trauma. The injury occurred while he was being required to lift heavy objects at work, even after he voiced concerns and reminded management that he had medical accommodations on file. He was laughed at and told that no such accommodations existed.

While not as severe as the amputation he endured last year, this condition still requires another corrective surgery scheduled for December. His doctor prescribed him a knee scooter and confirmed that he could continue working before and after the surgery, as long as he remained non-weight-bearing on that foot for at least four months.

However, instead of supporting him, his employer placed him on a four-month forced leave of absence after he arrived at work using the knee scooter. My father was fully ready and able to perform his duties, and this is just one of several discriminatory acts he has faced at work.

He’s been told not to use his walking stick (which he’s needed since his surgery last year), forced to lift heavy items despite medical restrictions, and repeatedly assigned to positions that require him to stand for long periods. Most recently, management told him that his knee scooter “violates company policy,” offering no explanation as to why.

Under the ADA, an accommodation can only be denied if it causes undue hardship to the employer—yet they have provided no such justification, nor have they offered workers’ compensation or any form of pay during this leave.

We are doing everything we can to challenge this unfair treatment, but right now, we’re struggling just to stay housed. Without my father’s income, we don’t have enough to cover rent, which we urgently need funds for.

This is truly our last resort. We’re asking for $2,000 to help us make it through October. Any amount—no matter how small—will help us keep a roof over our heads while my father recovers and fights for his right to fair treatment at work.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting us during this incredibly difficult time.
