My name is Edward Moncada and I’m currently starting an independent fundraiser to help provide one of my dear colleagues with an instrument.
When I started attending the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in Fall 2023, I was quickly inspired and humbled by the incredible musicianship of the student body and the vibrant music scene of Greeley and the surrounding Northern Colorado area. During my first year, I was placed in a jazz combo with an undergraduate student named Christian Longoria, a young and extremely talented tenor sax player. Christian quickly became a musical role model for me, as he always demonstrated a deep respect for music and, as one of my colleagues put it, “never left anything on the table” whenever he played, even if it was just a rehearsal. Christian’s musicality and incredible, humble attitude have been a constant source of inspiration for me.
Fast forward one year – Christian is now pursuing a master’s degree at UNC and is focusing on playing alto sax in which he is now playing alto in the university’s premiere jazz ensembles. However, Christian is managing to do this all on a school-owned intermediate instrument. While Christian does not appear to be struggling by any means, I recently had it on my heart to lead an effort to provide Christian with the funds that would allow him to purchase a professional grade instrument. Christian has and will continue to perform on national and international jazz platforms, and I believe that this effort will not only allow him to have a reliable instrument, but it will ultimately help maximize his ability to express himself as he moves forward in his career.
