Hi, my name is Shane Carrigan and I am starting this GoFundMe for my family, as it is difficult for them to ask for help themselves.
In the photo you see my beautiful mother, Corrine, my younger sister, Erin and her brand new beautiful baby, Maisy James!
A little less than two years ago my Dad died unexpectedly and it has shaken our family to its core. It has taken everything for my Mom to stay strong and keep moving forward after the sudden death of her 33-year marriage. My life and responsibilities have me based in California and although I am doing everything I can, they need more help. They have had to move from my hometown and downsize twice and must now find a new living situation after being wrongfully evicted in Nashville.
My Mom has been disabled for a long time. She has very painful and debilitating neuropathy, and a foot injury/infection that hasn't healed in years. She has been ordered not to walk on it, which makes it very difficult for her to work. Our Dad was her sole source of income for a long time. Erin has lost two jobs in the past three years and has not been able to work through a difficult pregnancy and raising a newborn. They have been able to live from their humble savings for a short time, but that time is up. They are renting and have no property or savings or extended family, really anything to fall back on. My sister has been searching constantly for work that she can do as a new single mother, to no avail yet. My Mom has been trying to work from home so she can stay off her foot, but was recently laid off and is also spending a lot of time taking care of Erin's baby.
Earlier this year they fell two months behind on rent, as they barely had enough for food, my Mom's medicine, and basics for Maisy. Even though Tennessee still has a CDC-ordered moratorium on evictions active through July 31st, the rental company still filed an eviction lawsuit. Mom and Erin made attempts to work with the rental company, but all communication was shut down and they now won't even allow them to pay their rent and catch back up. My sister has made EVERY attempt to contact them: email, calls, driving to the office. They have denied all contact. They must go to court on August 20th, by which time they will likely be physically evicted. Tennessee has been hard on thousands of similar cases even though evictions are supposed to be banned. With no promise of work, no assistance from the state, a very finicky eviction case, and no family they can stay with, it's possible that they may not have a home.
My family has always been a family of accountability, but sometimes circumstances just become too much to bear alone. It's why I am reaching out to my community for help. The $15,000 will cover the rent backpay, the cost of relocation, and a month or so of food, medicine, baby expenses, and bills while they continue the search for work.
If you can help by offering remote or Nashville-local work opportunities, please contact me.
I will be working day and night to find solutions for them, and be donating what I can, myself, to this fund. I am so thankful in advance to anyone who has the heart to share this story around with friends or social media, or give something. We have struggled before, but have always found a way. We are not the type of family to ask for help, but one of my closest friends pushed me to do this, given the circumstances.
I wouldn't be creating this GoFundMe if my family didn't really need it. You are truly very much appreciated!
