My two daughters recently moved to South Carolina with my 11-year-old grandson to start over and build a better life. Back in New York, both of my daughters worked as swimming instructors and always supported each other, especially when it came to raising my grandson. The cost of living in New York became too much, so they made the brave decision to move south, even though it meant leaving behind family and familiarity.
Since arriving in South Carolina, my younger daughter has been working two part-time jobs while also going to school, and my older daughter works full-time at a daycare center. I sold them my 2009 Prius to help them get started, but recently, one of my daughters was in a car accident and the car was totaled. Now, they’re without transportation, and with no family nearby, it’s been incredibly difficult for them to get to work, school, and take care of my grandson. Public transportation in their area is very limited, making things even harder.
Having a car would make a world of difference for them. My younger daughter works about 20 minutes away and sometimes late at night, so having reliable transportation is essential for her safety. If my grandson gets sick or there’s an emergency, they need a way to get where they need to go. When my daughter finishes school, she’ll need a car to go on job interviews and hopefully get a better job. I know money is tight for everyone, especially during the holidays, but anything anyone can do to help would be so appreciated. Thank you doesn’t seem like enough, but it’s all I have. Your support would mean the world to our family.
