I am a young mother advocating for my daughter’s access to intensive therapy after what was a healthy, full-term pregnancy. Our journey changed unexpectedly, and I had to quickly learn how to navigate complex medical systems while being my daughter’s constant source of comfort, safety, and strength.
My daughter has a brain injury caused by HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy). Children with HIE greatly benefit from early, intensive intervention because repetition helps retrain the brain and build new pathways. Intensive therapy provides constant reinforcement, which is critical for helping her learn, retain, and strengthen skills that do not come easily due to her injury.
The intensive therapy program she needs is 4 hours a day, costing $150 per hour. For a two-week program, the total keeps adding up quickly, but this level of care could be truly life-changing for her development. At 19 months old, she is still not meeting the milestones she should be, which makes early intervention even more urgent.
I am currently her full-time caregiver and am unable to work because she requires constant care and we do not have additional help. This fundraiser will help cover the cost of intensive therapy as well as travel expenses so we can get there and back without the added worry of financial stress.
I am committed to doing everything possible to support my daughter’s growth and give her the best chance to thrive. Early, intensive therapy is not optional for children with HIE—it is essential. I will continue to advocate tirelessly for the care she needs and deserves.
