Help Nicole Pacheco Get Cochlear Implant Surgery
Donation protected
As most of you know, my first-born Daughter, Nicole, was diagnosed with Degenerative Progressive Neural Sensory Hearing Loss in both ears when she was 5 years old. At the time they discovered her hearing loss, her impairment was 35%, which the audiologist said could be partly rectified with hearing aids. So, although it was devastating news there was something we could do to help her. From the age of 5, Nicole has been wearing hearing aids and battling her deterioration day by day while at the same time excelling academically, and in anything she has set her mind on. She was Inducted into the National Honor Society and the English National Honor Society, and has been accepted into Rollins College, Nova University and UCF just to name a few.
Unfortunately, her hearing loss has reached the level that we have always feared, and the hearing aids are no longer helping. Her hearing loss is currently 92 %, which is only 8% away from being totally deaf; since hearing aids only amplify sound it doesn’t help her with deciphering words. At our last audiologist appointment, they told us that she has now reached a point where the only thing that will help her is a Cochlear Implant. A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted neuroprosthetic device that provides a sense of sound to a person with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. Cochlear implants bypass the normal acoustic hearing process, instead replacing it with electric hearing.
Because she is a senior in High school and turns 18 on February 9th, 2019, it’s imperative that we get the surgery done right away so that she can get it done with the same doctors that she has had all her life at Nemours Children’s Hospital. The Surgery is scheduled for January 24th, 2019, although the insurance covers the majority of the surgery, it doesn’t give us enough time to come up with the Deductible and Co-Insurance required by the hospital prior to surgery.
That is why on behalf of my family and especially my daughter I implore you to please do what you can to help her achieve the best as well as the most difficult part of her hearing journey by donating whatever you can towards her Cochlear Implant Surgery. If you cannot help financially we totally understand, and ask that you please share this Go Fund Me page and keep Nicole in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
