My daughter and her two children, ages 11 and 12, have endured more hardship in the past year than most families face in a lifetime. After years of mental, physical, emotional, and financial abuse, my daughter made the brave decision to leave a toxic home. The children were taken by the state, but through her determination and love, she worked tirelessly to get them back, securing a job and a home to give them the stability they deserved.

But just as things were starting to look up, a series of tragedies struck. Within a year, my daughter was in two car accidents—wrecking the only vehicles we had, which belonged to her grandmother and me. She lost her job when the business closed down, and then suffered a motorcycle accident that left her with medical, dental, and therapy bills, as well as legal fees and court costs. Unable to work due to her injuries and PTSD, the bills piled up. Despite help from family and friends, it wasn’t enough. She was evicted, forced to move out in just two days, and not allowed back on the property where her grandmother and I live. Now, the children are staying with family, but my daughter has nowhere stable to go and is sleeping on couches wherever she can. Every once in a while, they get to spend the night together, but it’s not the same as having a home.

The kids lost almost everything—favorite toys, stuffed animals, art supplies, video games, and even their beloved cats and dog. Their birthdays were small this year, and Christmas is looking uncertain. Our family is doing everything we can, but the financial burden is overwhelming, and we are barely getting by ourselves. We are raising money to help with Christmas, pay existing bills, secure a rental home including deposit, first and last months’ rent, add a deposit for utilities, purchase a vehicle and insurance, and catch up on bills to help rebuild their credit. We are deeply grateful for any support, and your kindness gives us hope for a fresh start.
