Help my daughter pursue an amazing dance opportunity!
My daughter started dancing before she could walk, and from that moment on she's been pushing her craft and honing her passion. After years of performances and scholarships and incredible hard-earned victories, she now has the opportunity to learn and dance with her heroes at the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) Conference and Festival in February. She and a troupe of her teachers and peers at her own dance studio are attending as a group. The fundraising effort to get them there is underway, but registration itself (which I need to pay upfront before an approaching deadline) is $400. For a single mom of three (living on an adjunct teaching paycheck), that's a lot.
No matter what, I'm gonna get her there. I got her to New York when she was offered an Alvin Ailey scholarship. I got her a constant supply of tights, dance shoes, and leotards when she was accepted at a local arts school. I've gotten her to dance classes and rehearsals for 11 years now, including during periods when I was so broke I had to sell my own plasma in between commuting to two different teaching gigs. So, getting her to this conference is a given. I'm asking for any help I can get to offset its impact on our already-tenuous family finances.
