Help my Dad who is living with Lewy Body Dementia
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sarah and I am trying to raise funds to support my Dad. At just 57 years old, roughly 3 years ago, my Dad was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. He takes medication which helps with his symptoms, but sadly there is no cure and his symptoms are gradually getting worse.
Some of the symptoms of Lewy Body Dementia include slow movement, stiff limbs and tremors.
As time has gone on, basic tasks which we all take for granted such as getting out of bed in the morning, have become very difficult for my Dad. He is receiving support from the NHS and has been supplied with a profiling bed which makes this easier, however, my Dad is really suffering with hip and joint pain associated with his condition. Being used to a double bed all of his life, he can't sleep well at all in the single bed that has been provided, mainly because he is unable to stretch out to try to alleviate his hip pain. Living with this disease is hard enough, but the lack of sleep and dreading going to bed at night is having a huge impact on his sleep and also his quality of life. The NHS is unable to supply a double bed, and the cost of buying the bed he would need is around £3,000.
It is my Dad's 60th birthday in January. He probably doesn't have that many good years left and I want to do everything I can to make sure that he is as comfortable and as happy as he can be.
In order to raise the funds needed to buy this equipment, I am aiming to walk 100 miles in January. Those of you who know me know that I am neither an outdoorsy person, or a lover of the cold weather! So if you are able to support this cause by donating anything at all, I would be so so grateful.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and wish me luck in my challenge!
