Help My Dad Walk Again: Urgent Surgery Needed

My dad, Manuel or Manny as some know him, has always been an active, vibrant person who loves traveling, serving our local church, and participating in various sports. However, about six months ago, he began experiencing severe back pain that radiated down to his leg. After numerous doctor visits and X-rays that appeared normal, he was initially diagnosed with sciatica and recommended for chiropractic care and physical therapy. Unfortunately, these treatments only worsened his condition.

In the last three weeks, his pain has become so debilitating that he can barely walk a few meters without his left leg giving out. Desperate for answers, we consulted a neurosurgeon who ordered MRIs. The results revealed two herniated discs: one between L3 and L4, which is still intact, and another between L5 and S1, which has burst and is causing excruciating pain.

The neurosurgeon has advised immediate surgery to prevent further damage and potential loss of mobility in his right leg. Given the acute pain and loss of function in his left leg, he now relies on a wheelchair for even the shortest trips.

The prescribed surgery includes L3 L4 Instrumentation Plus Right Nerve Decompression and Left L5 S1 Microdiscectomy. The total cost is overwhelming for our family, especially considering Costa Rica's currency rate and cost of living. The surgeon's fee is approximately $12,000, which we are covering through a loan. However, we need to raise $10,000 to cover the hospital facility charges and hospitalization.
