Help My Dad Stay Near Cancer Treatment in Galveston
Hi, my name is Jessie Stonebraker, and I’m reaching out for support for my dad as he undergoes six weeks of radiation treatment for squamous cell carcinoma in Galveston, TX.
I hate asking for help like this, but after everything my dad has been through, I just want to do whatever I can to make this process easier for him.
Not many people know, but in September, my dad underwent major surgery to remove and reconstruct his tongue and jaw using parts of his leg due to this cancer. They also had to put a feeding tube in place. This caused a month long stay before he could go home.
Then, in October, he faced another setback—a serious infection in his leg wound landed him in the hospital for another month. Doctors feared he might lose his leg, but he’s been fighting his way back. It’s still a long road to recovery, but he’s pushing through with incredible strength.
Now, he needs six weeks of daily radiation treatments Monday-Friday in Galveston. The problem? He lives over an hour away, and transportation is a major challenge.
To ensure he gets the care and rest he needs, we are hoping to stay in an Airbnb near the treatment facility. However, the costs of lodging, food, and transportation are adding up quickly.
My dad has already been through so much, and I don’t want financial stress or the struggle of finding transportation to interfere with his treatment.
Here’s an estimate of what we need to cover:
• Airbnb near the treatment center: $3,959 before taxes
• Food & basic living expenses: $500
• Gas & transportation costs: $400
• Other unexpected medical/travel expenses: $100
We’re setting a goal of $5,000, but truly, every dollar helps, no matter how small.
Throughout this journey, I’ve fought alongside an amazing neighbor-turned-friend of dads to navigate endless obstacles:
-Health insurance battles
-Home health struggles
-Fighting to get his feeding tube supplies
-Struggling with hospital social workers & case managers
-Coordinating transportation options to multiple appointments in League City, Galveston, and Sweeny area.
It’s been an experience, but we’ve done everything possible to make sure my dad gets the care he needs. Now, I’m asking for help to make sure he can get through this next phase with as little stress as possible.
If you’re able to contribute, any amount is deeply appreciated. Even if you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser with others can make a huge impact. Your generosity-whether financial or through spreading the word-means more to us than words can describe.
Donate if you can
Share if you can’t
Send good thoughts dads way
If for any reason we don’t use all of the donations, I will return the unused funds to donors or, with permission, donate them to a cancer-related charity that supports patients in similar situations. Transparency is important to me, and I want you to know your kindness is going exactly where it’s needed.
Thank you for being part of our support system.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
