Hola, mi nombre es Christine, y hoy recurro a ustedes con una petición desde el corazón para ayudar a mi papá, Manuel Alvarez, quien está enfrentando un serio problema de salud.
Hace solo unos meses, a mi papá le diagnosticaron una enfermedad ocular rara y progresiva llamada Distrofia Endotelial de Fuchs (FECD). Esta condición hace que la córnea se inflame y se vuelva opaca, lo que causa una pérdida severa de visión y, eventualmente, ceguera. Ha sido muy duro ver cómo su visión se ha ido deteriorando tan rápidamente, sabiendo que, sin tratamiento, podría quedarse completamente ciego.
Después de consultar con especialistas en Panamá y Colombia, nos dijeron que la mejor esperanza para salvar su vista es un trasplante de córnea en ambos ojos, y que el especialista más calificado, junto con el banco de córneas necesario, se encuentra en Nueva York.
El costo total de esta cirugía que le cambiaría la vida es de $30,000 dólares, una cantidad que lamentablemente nuestra familia no puede cubrir por sí sola. Este monto incluye las operaciones en ambos ojos, consultas médicas, cuidados postoperatorios y el costo del tejido corneal.
Mi papá es un hombre noble y trabajador, que siempre ha puesto a nuestra familia por delante. Es una persona que ilumina cualquier lugar con su calidez, su fe y su actitud positiva, incluso ahora, mientras enfrenta este momento tan difícil. Tiene sueños por cumplir y seguir ayudando a los demás — pero todo eso está en riesgo si pierde la vista.
Por eso hoy pedimos tu ayuda. Cualquier aporte — por pequeño que sea — irá directamente a cubrir los gastos médicos y quirúrgicos necesarios para preservar su visión. Y si no puedes donar, simplemente compartir esta campaña con tus contactos también nos ayudaría muchísimo.

Hi, my name is Christine, and I’m reaching out with a heartfelt request to help my father, Manuel Alvarez, as he faces a critical health challenge.
Just a few months ago, my dad was diagnosed with a rare, progressive eye condition called Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy (FECD) — a disease that causes the cornea to swell and become cloudy, leading to severe vision loss and, eventually, blindness. It’s been incredibly difficult to watch his vision decline so quickly, knowing that without medical intervention, he may lose his sight entirely.
After months of searching for answers, my dad has seen eye specialists in our home country Panama and in Colombia, but the treatment options are limited. We were told that the best hope for saving his vision is a double cornea transplant, and that the most qualified specialist and the necessary cornea bank are located in New York.
The cost of this life-changing surgery is $30,000, and unfortunately, this is not something our family can manage alone. The amount includes the surgeries for both eyes, consultations, post-operative care, and the cost of the corneal tissue itself.
My dad is a kind, hardworking man who has always put our family first. He’s someone who lights up the room with his warmth, faith and positivity — even now, while facing something so frightening. He has dreams of continuing to help others, and enjoy the beauty of life — but all of that is at risk if he loses his sight.
