Hi, my name is Grace Hages, and I'm raising funds on behalf of my dad, Sean Hages.
Recently, my dad suffered a heart attack. It was sudden, scary, and has completely upended life as we knew it. He’s now in recovery, and while we’re incredibly grateful he’s still with us, the road ahead is a tough one—physically, emotionally, and financially.
Sean is a working artist and sculptor who has spent the past year rehabbing a house by hand—a long-term project that’s been part art, part survival. After the heart attack, not only has he had to pause his work and creative projects, but he’s also facing mounting medical bills and can’t work during his recovery.
One especially urgent need is getting a roof on the rehab house. Without it, all the work he’s put in is at risk of being destroyed by weather damage. It’s hard to express how much time, energy, and meaning this space holds for him—it’s not just a house, it’s part of his recovery too.
We’re asking for support to help cover:
-Medical expenses not covered by insurance
-Basic living costs while he’s healing
-Roofing materials and installation to protect the house
Any donation, no matter the size, would mean the world to us. And if you’re not in a position to give, sharing this campaign would help more than you know.
Thank you so much for reading, supporting, and being part of this healing process.
With gratitude,
Grace
Hey it's Sean. I wanted to add the whole story that I posted to Facebook a couple weeks ago. People are now seeing this on Instagram and via text messages so here's more information for you:
Trigger Warning! Scary medical story.
I had a heart attack. Last Monday at like 4am I woke up with chest pain. I tried to go back to bed but it kept bugging me. After Googling "heart attack symptoms" I decided it was probably safer to just go to the ER.
I went to Henry Ford Hospital down the street from me here in Detroit. They got me in a bed in the ER almost immediately. After some tests and what not they told me they had bed for me on the Cardiology floor. I was surprised, but my heart enzymes (Troponin) levels associated with heart attacks was on the rise in my blood tests.
Later that day they did an echocardiogram that seemed normal. I still didn't think that I had a heart attack (I'm only 45y/o!) but the Troponin levels were continuing to get higher. I guess normal levels are like 12, at first test mine were like 60. By the end of the day over 20,000 (the highest the test would go.) This is consistent with heart attacks.
The next day (Tuesday) they had me in the Cath Lab to do a procedure to see if there was blockage and if so, treat it with a stent. They found that I had had a heart attack before this one (I had no idea) and that I also currently had two decent obstructions. One they treated with a stent, and another they have to do at a later date. I guess there is a limit as to how long the procedure can last (something to do with the dye they use and blah, blah, blah.)
They released me from the hospital the next day. I am on blood thinners (for the rest of my life (because of the stent.)) A beta-blocker to slow my heart down until the next procedure. And some other shit for like my cholesterol. The meds got me all dizzy and i have diahooha and what not. I can't really do much until the other stent and I get winded if I go up the steps or dizzy if i stand up too quickly. Shit sucks.
I also have what's called "brain fog" from the whole thing. Which is guess is normal but it's super weird. It means my cognitive abilities are temporarily messed up so I have a hard time understanding things, processing new information, forming plans, and even speaking sometimes.
My daughter Grace, my girlfriend Dani, and my other friends and family have been super supportive through out all of this. Some of the phone calls and well wishing has been a bit emotionally overwhelming but overall positive and the things that I need to hear. I am really grateful to have people in my life that care about me. I don't know if I could handle this shit alone, it's been pretty hard even with the squad on board.
I feel like I have second chance at life here, and I am looking forward to a healthier lifestyle, with more positivity and being more present. But right now my body, mind, and spirit are a bit disheveled, so I am taking it easy (I literally have to) and trying to rest and just keep my chin up.
I don't post a lot on Facebook but I need some extra love right now. Life is short guys, tell your people you love them, put aside some of the bull crap that is beyond your control and stressing you out, and if you have chest pain go to the ER it's pretty easy for them to figure out if it's a heart attack.
