Hi, my name is Elysha. I’ve been taken care of my parents for the past 8 years who have been suffering from different medical conditions, my mom suffers from heart failure and my dad from nerve damage and ALS. I've lived in Pasadena my entire life, and seeing the devastation in the only place I've called home is unbelievable and heartbreaking. I’m reaching out on behalf of my father, Kevin, who is facing incredibly difficult and uncertain times. My dad was recently diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that has left him wheelchair-bound and struggling with everyday tasks.
Unfortunately, our world was further shaken when the Eaton Fire swept through our area, forcing us to evacuate. My dad’s building lost power during the evacuation, and when we called 911 to receive assitance during the evacuation, they said resources were too thin to assist. We had to choose between trying to find a private ambulance in the dark or making it out by ourselves. So, in an effort to save time and get out before it was too late, we had to rely on what little strength he had left to make his way down a pitch-black stairwell with only a flashlight to guide us. I was by his side, bracing him with my body to get down each 5 flights of stairs step-by-step, literally one foot in front of the other. He took small breaks at each landing to gather himself for the next staircase. It took us over 20 minutes to get him to safety. We are grateful that he is safe, but the toll on his fragile body was severe. The stress and physical exertion of the evacuation caused immense pain, and since then, he has been unable to get out of bed or do the exercises that are vital for his condition.
At this moment, my dad can’t return home, as there is still an evacuation order in place. And we're unable to find out any information on the condition of his home. He has lost access to critical medical equipment, and the damage to his mobility has been substantial. On top of everything, the fire has made it impossible for him to get the care he needs at home, and we are in urgent need of assistance. These funds will assist with needs that might not be fully covered by other sources of aid.
The physical stress from the evacuation took a toll on his body so it is no longer feasible for him to live without constant care, especially with the ongoing uncertainty. ALS care is incredibly expensive, and this additional burden from the fire has put us in a tough spot. We need to explore options for an assisted living facility where he can receive the proper care, therapy, and support. We are hoping to ease the financial strain so my dad can focus on his health and recovery without worrying about these expenses.
Your help will allow us to address the many aspects of recovery and support our family through this crisis. We are grateful for any support, whether it’s a financial contribution or simply sharing this campaign with others. This has been an incredibly hard time for our family, and we are doing everything we can to make sure my dad has the care and comfort he deserves.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support. Every donation, no matter the amount, brings us one step closer to helping my dad regain his stability and quality of life after this devastating fire.
With love and gratitude,
Elysha Bullock
