Support My Dad's Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer
Back in February, out of nowhere we noticed my dad's skin and eyes were turning yellow. We immediately knew something was very wrong and had to act quick. Since he doesn't have insurance in the States, we flew him to Mexico right away to see doctors and get the tests done.
After seeing several specialist and numerous tests. It was pancreatic cancer. They found a tumor on his pancreas that needed to come out fast, which meant going straight into a Whipple procedure, one of the most serious surgeries there is.
He got through it. Recovery is slow and it's been brutal on his body, but he's fighting and getting better. We are still waiting on the full pathology report to know what's next. Could be chemo, could be more treatments, we just don't know yet. Whatever it is, we'll figure it out as a family.
The costs have added up fast. Surgery, doctors, nurses, travel, and whatever treatment comes next. On top of that, he won't be able to work for the next 6 months if not longer, which makes the financial piece a bit more complicated. While asking for help doesn't come naturally to us, and is tough for us, the reality of how expensive this gets without insurance is something we couldn't have prepared for, and are figuring it out as we go.
Anything helps. And if you can't give, sharing this goes a long way too!
