Help my Dad, our Papa, Coach Jon Roberts through a hard time

My Dad, our beloved Papa, had a hemorrhage stroke (a brain bleed) and is slowly getting his body, his mind, and his life back together. The prognosis is good for him, but it is a long hard road to full recovery.

A few years ago I asked my Dad if he would be interested in volunteering for the less fortunate. He quickly responded with- "What do you think I've been doing all this time? Do you think I coach for the money?" This really struck me and made me understand what my Dads life work has been, It opened my eyes to see how deeply he gives to his community. Most people live their lives for themselves not, not him.

He has dedicated his life to the sport of volleyball and to the community of Santa Barbara. Coaching adults, kids, and teams for over 40 years. As you can imagine, a coach's salary is as minimal as they come. This man is a treasure to his family and his community and is in need of help. He is more than a coach, if you could only see how his students respond to him, how much they love him, what a beacon of knowledge, love and support he is to this community and these kids you would understand how important it is to support him in return so he can continue giving back the way he does. As a mother of two boys myself, I know how difficult it is raising good humans in our current World, I feel strongly that we need people like him in our communities helping with these young souls. It’s not just about volleyball. It’s about about community and showing up for eachother. Let’s show up for him now!

I am Rachel, his daughter. He lives with me, my husband, and our two children. I am honored and happy to help him in his healing journey. I will take care of him the best I can, but the financial burden of what this next year looks like is overwhelming... medical bills, construction costs for making his space safer, meal service, therapies not accepted by insurance, the list goes on…. not to mention the financial stress causes stress, which is not good for his already sensitive well-being, we definitely do not need him having another stroke because of financial stress!
