Hi friends. One thing about my Daddy and I is we don’t like to ask for help, but here we are.

On Sept 5, 2024, he underwent surgery for a colon resection after completing chemo and radiation for colon cancer. He and I both never thought he’d survive the major surgery given his impressive medical history. In November of 2024, he was hospitalized for sepsis. He had an anastomotic leak (we don’t know if this was the cause of the infection or if the infection caused it). Since November, he’s had a drain tube in his rectum with a wound vac and now without. He’s had to go under anesthesia weekly for drain tube changes (sometimes twice a week), and here recently, he’s been able to wait for every other week. He’s up to number 24!

We drive back and forth from Asheboro to Winston Salem (about an hour). We are at the point where his leak hole is the smallest it’s been (diameter of a sharpie). His surgeon wants to try hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy to see if it can allow for more healing before we go down the road of attempting to repair it for good. Any type of complication you can have, he’s had, but he continues to be in good spirits most days.

We’ve spent many hours, driven many miles, and have accumulated quite the financial burden. The Veterans Affairs has approved the hyperbaric therapy, but our newest challenge is transportation back and forth. I work full-time and am his only support for all of these therapies. He’s expected to go 5 days a week for 41 visits. It’s all up in the air unless I can lock down transportation for him, and we really need some help to allow for this.
