Joe Maglio’s Recovery
Donation protected
My dad, Joe Maglio, was brought in to the hospital on Sunday, June 2 for low oxygen and severe fluid retention in both legs. Shortly after being brought into the emergency room, he had convulsions, fell unresponsive and had critically high co2 levels along with his low oxygen. They admitted him to the hospital on the same day.
Later that day, he improved for a short time with the help of a non-invasive ventilator (NIV) before declining again to the point of needing a rapid response team called in, due to his responsiveness dropping off again, then going into an abnormal heart rhythm. At this time, they stressed the importance of his NIV being worn not only at night, but when his co2 levels rose as they have been.
After having a procedure to drain appropriately 1 liter of fluid from around each lung, he has graduated to only needing the NIV when he sleeps to assist him in keeping the co2 levels in his blood from rising to a dangerous level again.
Medicare part B isn’t going to kick in until February of 2025 and we need help renting his non-invasive ventilator for when he gets to go home until Medicare can cover it. It will cost approximately $1800/month not including additional supplies he may need. We would be so incredibly grateful for anything you can spare!
