Help my Dad, Chris Laskey, Fight Brain Cancer
Dear loved ones and kind-hearted supporters,
My name is Megan, and I am raising money on behalf of my father, Christopher. On July 14th, 2024, Chris, my dad, one of the strongest and most hard working men I’ve ever known, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a highly aggressive, grade 4 brain tumor. Over the last 10 months, my dad has battled brain cancer full-time.
My dad has shown tremendous courage, grace, and grit as he’s navigated this diagnosis. He underwent an initial brain surgery at Johns Hopkins, tackled weeks of radiation and months of chemotherapy, and faced the emotional and physical weight of this illness with unwavering strength. Chris has done so without losing his sense of humor or his faith in the power of positive thinking. His strength and resilience throughout this process have been astonishing. We are now preparing for a second brain surgery later this month as we transition his care to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital (UPenn).
About Chris
To know Chris is to know he’s the kind of person who leads with a sharp sense of humor, wit, and a deep sense of care for those around him. He's always been someone who shows up, supports, and gives generously without ever expecting anything in return.
Growing up, my dad was the epitome of health. He is an incredible adventurer and a true inspiration. He biked across the US three times, exploring the beauty of nature and connecting with people from all walks of life. More recently, he completed the Camino de Santiago, a challenging physical and spiritual journey of dedication and reflection, nearly 500 miles walking across Spain – a testament to how he approaches life. One thing we know for sure is that Chris has the strength, the love, and the drive to fight this every step of the way. He has always been a source of support, and now I ask you to help me support him.
Why We're Reaching Out
This journey has not only been emotionally exhausting but has also brought financial strain on my partner, Connor, and me, especially as I’ve rearranged my life to care for him full-time. We have very little family nearby, and the day-to-day responsibilities—hospital trips, meals, care coordination—fall on just a few of us.
We are currently navigating:
- The costs of surgery, treatments, and follow-up care not covered by insurance
- Frequent travel and lodging between Washington, DC, and UPenn
- Home health needs as Chris recovers
We’re raising money to help cover these critical expenses and ensure my dad has access to the best possible care, comfort, and support during this next chapter.
What Your Support Means
Know that every donation — big or small — helps lift a piece of the burden. It means we can keep showing up for my dad without having to constantly weigh the various costs of medications, medical travel, or in-home help. It means we can keep focusing on what matters most: time together.
Even if you’re unable to give right now, sharing this campaign or sending a message of encouragement would mean the world to us. We’ve seen how powerful community can be — and right now, we need all the love and light we can get.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Megan, Katie, Connor & Chris
"The Strength Within"

In the darkest hours of the night,
When shadows loom and fears take flight,
A battle rages deep inside,
A strength within we cannot hide.
