I am writing on behalf of my father who greatly needs your help. If intervention isn’t started soon, I am afraid that I will lose him. WARNING: Graphic Diabetic Ulcer / one of the feet with amputations are pictured within the slideshow.
Just as a backstory, back in 2016, my mom tragically took her life. For a few years after, my dad didn’t have custody due to struggling to process his grief, but now he has sole custody of my baby sister. He is a Type 1 diabetic, with only 4 toes left due to complications from his diabetes. He is looking at possibly another amputation of his leg as he has a severe infection to the point you can see his bone in his foot that previously has already had amputations. He was working 3 jobs at one point & is now down to one job because his body is starting to give out and he is struggling to make ends meet due to his condition and having to pay hefty prices for insulin as he has no insurance. He also is taking care of my 13-year-old sister alone. He currently lives 13 hours from me, so I can’t do as much as I would like to support him and my sister, which is why I’m reaching out for help.
My father has tried to apply for disability and health insurance and is always denied because he worked three jobs at one point & is now down to one job due to his immense pain but still according to their guidelines “makes too much” . He has been telling me that he’s been having seizures and he thinks it is due to his poor quality insulin since he can’t afford the insulin he used to have anymore. My dad is also going through a divorce and has lost practically everything and is living in not-so-great conditions for him and my little sister.
I am starting this fundraiser to raise money to get him a new place that he and my sister can thrive in and also hopefully to raise enough to get him at least a month off work/cover his insulin costs so he can finally have time to not be in pain and also get much-needed healthcare/time with his daughter.
He is all we have left and I don’t want my sister to wake up to him gone due to the infections he can’t afford to take care of and working himself to death. We have already lost one parent and I am hoping it won’t happen again.
Regardless, if you don’t have anything to give, that’s okay. If you do, any amount helps. Thank you so much.
