Help Cheryl (w Covid) Move Back Home to Wisconsin

Donation protected
Our dear 64-year-old friend, Cheryl “Grimby” Grimm, needs your help. A year ago July, Cheryl was moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, from her home town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, population 5,000, for a job with a company she knew and trusted, having worked there prior, from 1998-2006. It cost all her savings and most of her IRA, cashed-out, to relocate. Vegas is expensive. Home rentals are extremely high there and hard to come by.  Cheryl finally found a place to live and moved herself and her older dog, Charlie, along with everything she owned to the new city.

A few months after she got there, she discovered that the company that moved her was not solid – the “deal” to make the new Las Vegas hub viable had not been officially completed. Every day for nearly a year, she was told a new deal was potentially being signed, and to hang in there. The stress was enormous.

In March 2020, Vegas became a hot zone for Covid-19. As a city relying almost entirely on tourism, it was no mystery why the virus escalated there. On March 17, the day the “Las Vegas Strip” announced that it was closing its doors to slow the virus spread, Cheryl came down with what felt like a bad cold. Nine days later, she almost died, as COVID ravaged her lungs. Unable to work, Cheryl was stranded at home, completely alone, with no one to visit or help.

Cheryl is now what they call a COVID “long hauler.” It has been 5 months and she is still suffering from the ravages of this insidious virus. The “symptoms” seem to reoccur in waves – one minute she’s starting to feel better, then the next day or two or three, a new set of unpleasantries come back, including severe headaches, stomach problems, bouts of vertigo and days of racking dry-coughing jags. And the bone-deep fatigue is constant.

Cheryl learned today, August 15, that the company that moved her to Las Vegas finally gave up and has officially shut down all operations for good. She is unemployed and out of money and stranded in Vegas. Cheryl has been unable to get unemployment insurance, despite trying every day to apply. Her health is still extremely compromised.

Cheryl needs desperately to get back home to Wisconsin where she and Charlie can stay with her niece and husband and continue to recuperate from this devastating situation.

Cheryl is one of those people with a huge heart. Her humor touches everyone, and her generosity of spirit leaves all those who meet her feeling uplifted. Cheryl is the kind of person who literally gives you the shirt off her back. She has opened her heart and her home over the years to help many “lost souls” find their bearings again and heal their psychic wounds.

To move back home costs money Cheryl doesn’t have. In her current state, she can’t even drive the 1,800 miles from Las Vegas to Wisconsin in her car, much less a moving truck, without help. All of her humble possessions need to make the trek via a pod, or be abandoned. These are all she has left in the world at 64.

As her best friends, we are doing all we can to help and we ask for your help to raise enough money to get Cheryl home to Wisconsin where she can recover and be safe and no longer be completely alone. Monies raised will go toward a pod, her last month’s rent in Las Vegas (as she has to break her lease and hope the owner can re-rent the home quickly to relieve her of the obligation of the year-long lease she just signed based on word from the company that another “deal” was almost ready to be signed and her job would continue), and toward gas to help get her across country to her niece’s home.

Cheryl will not like us asking for help – but this is OUR choice to start this go fund me. We love her and know that the world is a far better place with her in it. We thank you for your help to get her home. Any amount will help enormously. No donation is too large or too small! THANK YOU!
