It is really hard to discuss this, but my child has been struggling with a severe mental illness for a long time. We have sought treatment, but it can be a rough road and these things don't go away overnight. Recently he took a turn for the worse and attempted suicide. He was taken to a psychiatric facility and is transitioning into intensive outpatient treatment. His outlook with the treatment is really good, but it is really expensive and our insurance isn't covering much. Even though we have insurance we have to come up with $7,150 for the copay plus 30% of the remaining cost which totals around $10,000+. My child is only 13 and loves to play violin. He is extremely gifted and wants to work for Nasa someday so I know he has a bright future ahead of him, but really needs the treatment to be able to learn how to control his illness so we are trying to raise the money to cover his treatment so he can get better.
If anyone is struggling with mental illness or thoughts of suicide please call the suicide hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or text the crisis line at 741741. Suicide is not the answer.
