Hi everyone,
I'm Rin and I’m reaching out because my sweet cuddly cat, Zim needs dental surgery, and simply put, unfortunately I can’t afford it on my own.
Zim had a hard life before we met, having previously lived outside after being abandoned with serious health issues and injuries. But 5 years ago he walked into my home, and heart. I instantly fell in love with this absolute goober of a cat, and although his life had immediately improved, his health problems were not over.
We don't know exactly what happened to Zim before "adopting" him, but he was a sad cat who came to us in terrible state. His fur was matted in several areas, he was covered in mud and dried blood, with new and old wounds all over his face and body.
He was underweight with several parasitic infections, and as if Zim hadn't been through enough, the vet discovered he had a bruised ear drum & mouth injuries indicative of either being hit by a car or possibly having been abused.
He was very scared of people and was extremely weary of loud noises.
But - after months of hard work
showing him he didn't have to be afraid, that he'd never have to survive on his own again - he improved, dramatically. Zim came out of his shell and learned to love playing with toys, asking for pets, and being interested in our friends, family, and even strangers at the front door.
During this time though, multiple health problems persisted, and 2 years ago, he had a surgery to both remove a lump on his leg and have dental work to take out broken/damaged teeth.
After his first surgery, we were advised that there could always be a recurrence of his dental issues, and unfortunately it looks like that's what's happened.
Last week Zim had a medical issue that required him to see the vet immediately. During this visit, I learned that he now needs another dental surgery, this time for resorptive lesions, which are extremely painful, as well as additional tooth extractions.
Again, our vet has told us that, unfortunately, this can happen. Sometimes trauma takes longer to show, other times the genetics of a cat can lead to these continued issues.
Zims vet has confirmed that he needs dental surgery as soon as possible to both prevent the pain from getting worse, and to stop more serious health complications from arising.
Unfortunately, pet insurance isn’t an option, and the cost of this surgery is far beyond what I can manage.
Zim is a total lap cat—he lives for cuddles, head rubs, and gentle pats. He’s incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than curling up with me and soaking up attention.
Zim is part of my family, it’s extremely hard to ask for help, but I’m doing it because he can’t speak for himself, because I'm his caretaker and I need help.

Rin
