Help! My Car Got Repo'd & I Need It Back!

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

My name is Krish Mohan and I was a touring comedian and I'm a regular person with a 9-5 job. Recently my car was repossessed a second time by Citizens One. Both times were with no prior warnings or anything. I purchased the car in 2019 and was making regular over payments till about March of 2020 when the Pandemic started. In fact in January of 2020, they had to adjust my loan because they weren't calculating my overpayments correctly. It was $2000 adjustment.

In 2020 they had me defer my payments for 3 months but all that did was accrue a ton of interest. So I wanted to see what alternatives we had. I talked to someone in the Office of the President who told me that as long I kept making regular payments, she'd note my financial situation and my car wouldn't get repo'd. In the meantime, they had their collections department call me about 3-5 times A DAY. So I had to write a letter asking they not call me all the time, which I did. I specifically only said phone calls.

In June of 2021 they repossessed my car without warning and claimed I had told them cease 100% of the communications with me. Regardless I was still getting statements that showed me how much I had left to pay, etc. It was odd. They took my car to Altoona; 2 hours from my house. I dipped into my savings and paid off the delayed payments and my best friend, Zach Funk, drove me to Altoona to get my car.

After that I wanted to just keep making regular payments. I had a better financial situation at the time and I made a few cuts to my lifestyle to make my regular payments. BUT they had moved my account to the Recovery department without telling me. So after I tracked the information down, I'd have to call them every month to get my statement so I had a paper tracking of each payment I made and when, etc, etc. I did that for about a year.

In November of 2022, I finally got someone to email statements after they heard my case and how convoluted it was. In 2023, I had several emergency situations that happened, and I couldn't afford to make payments for a while and I called and let them know that. They told me again that I didn't have to do that because there's no time limit, its not accruing interest and its just staining my credit till 2030.

Starting in September I was finally in a position to start making some kind of payments again. This morning (3.23.24), I got ready to go into the dojo and my car was gone. I panicked and called 911 and they told me it was repossessed by the bank. The recovery department is closed on Saturdays and I have to wait till Monday to even find out where my car is or what I can even do about it. I'm not even sure if its legal, but I can't really find information it. I find it cruel to take someone's car on a day your information department is closed.

I don't have a lot left to pay off on it. Roughly $5000 is all I have left. In 2021 It was a little over $11,000 I've been working so hard over the last few years to get my life back on track. It's been really challenging, but I was feeling like I could finally get it stabilized a little more. Now this is putting me on the verge of everything I've worked for collapsing.

This is cliff notes version of the story. There's a ton more with people from office of the President insulting me, random rule changes, etc etc. Its been a really really really long issue to deal with.

I just want to pay this off and move on. If anyone can contribute anything to help with this it'd be greatly appreciated. I will figure out a way to do something to repay everyone back. I'm not sure what that is and I'm in a bit of a panic state to even think about it. This is all I can really do right now.

Update 3.25.24: I finally got a hold of the Recovery department who had to forward me to the Repo department. Turns out I was fed half truths and false information by several people in the Recovery Department. They informed me that it was true that there no interest or late fees, but what was not told to me was the loan was to be paid by the original date on the contract and the minimum amount must be met every month. They told me I had no time limit for repayment.

My car is in North Versailles, 30 minutes from my place. Which is honestly relieving considering the last time it was in Altoona. BUT I need to wait till later in the day to get information about how to get my car back. The paperwork has not been processed by the 3rd Party Collections vendor they use. I did get the remainder of loan amount but no the Repo fees or how much the tow yard will charge me. I'm likely looking at $6000 bill to get my car out within 21 days.

Now I have to wait.

Update 3.28.24: I finally got my information but it was hell getting it. They still didn't have anything ready by 11am today! I was told it would ready by Tuesday afternoon. It took 2 extra days to get it to me. Then I hear they have 72 hours not 48, which makes a huge difference! After explaining (AGAIN) why I'm frustrated about this whole situation, I magically seem to get my information.

Its going be $6400 to pay off the car in full and get my title. It's about $2900 to reduce pay off the "overdue" balance. The Repo fees wind up being $900 and I still don't know if I have additional fees from the tow yard. Additionally, they let me know that my car could be transported literally anywhere in the country, at any time, without notice and I have to become a detective to find my car and get it or I paid all that money for nothing. So that's great.

I called the tow yard, as of this post its still there and there are no transport orders.
