Hello, my name is Becky. I moved to Australia all by myself on August 30th, 2025. Months prior, I got rid of everything I owned. I was advised by others who had made the trip to just get rid of everything and that I would thank myself later. They weren’t wrong.

It was a seriously challenging mission, and by the time I boarded the flight, I was mentally and physically exhausted. So much so that I was actually looking forward to the 24-hour flight where I could sit and do nothing. My stress levels dropped throughout the journey, and when we touched down in Sydney, I was stunned to realise that I had actually made it. My 15-year dream, which had been placed on hold due to sacrifice and the gruelling 3+ year visa assessment process, had all culminated in this arrival, and I had made it.

For my first six weeks, I stayed at a stranger’s home, caring for his two dogs. We met through a website and had never actually met in person until the day I arrived. It was such a wild experience. The home in which I live now is actually a 90-second drive from that very house. I went to many house viewings, but I knew this was the one. It actually came on the market two days before I left the UK. It all aligned so perfectly, and when they chose me, a woman with no job and no Australian rental history, I just couldn’t believe it.

The stress continued, although it has never been the same as it was back in the UK when I was parting with all of my belongings. The funds I raised were just enough for me to get a car, put down a deposit, buy some furniture, and secure a controller for DJ streams. I’ve had to register for tax, enrol in the healthcare system, enrol in superannuation, open bank accounts, sign up to taxation platforms, complete tax returns for the UK, get a driving licence, arrange car insurance, sign up to utilities, figure out the streets, the shops and get all household items, all firsts in a brand-new country. For a few months, I slept on the floor, similar to how I did towards the end of my time in the UK.

I just wanted to feel some sense of normality, and even now, at the end of February, a normal-looking routine and life have not yet materialised, although it’s getting there. Some people who made the move told me that it takes around a year, and I don’t doubt that.

In December, I contracted Campylobacter. It was horrific. People used to die from it in the past. I ended up collapsing in the supermarket on Christmas Eve, and when I went to hospital, they decided to keep me in due to an abnormal heart trace. Since then, it has been discovered that I have a suspected second heart condition, although the actual cause for my fainting was likely attributed to the results of additional tests, which showed that I was once again anaemic. I also now have high cholesterol. All on top of the 4 fibroid tumors in my womb and suspected endometriosis. Bye-bye fun foods.

Nevertheless, I am incredibly grateful to be in a country with one of the world’s best healthcare systems. For them to discover so much wrong with my body in such a short space of time is nothing short of a miracle and a blessing.

As I write this, after having been on iron medication for one and a half weeks, I can safely say that my energy levels are improving. I am no longer passing out during the day, and I am beginning to feel fitter and stronger. The toll it has taken on my body, though, with the Campylobacter and the anaemia, has certainly limited my ability to progress with my life here.

All by myself, one woman, realising her dream. I’m so happy to be in Australia, and I’m so incredibly grateful for the support around me. Most days it doesn’t feel real, but it is.

Several of you have kindly reached out asking how you can support my content creation journey. Because of that, I’ve set up this goal to help fund a new desktop PC that will allow me to continue creating, streaming, and producing music at a much higher quality.

Upgrading my setup will give me the tools I need to grow, improve production value, and stay consistent with the content and music I love sharing with you all. Any support, big or small, means more than you know. Thank you for being part of this journey with me ❤️
