Help My Brother Rehabilitate at Home

On July 23rd, my twin brother, Christopher, suffered a massive heart attack, leaving his brain deprived of oxygen for an unknown amount of time. After my parents found him agonally breathing, our father began CPR on him until the paramedics arrived. He was immediately intubated on scene and taken to Houston Methodist.

After what seemed like an eternity - but, it was approximately 5 days - he was finally transferred out of the emergency department (while intubated and sedated) into a medical intensive care unit. It was there that he finally seemed to show some, albeit small, progress to a recovery. A recovery of what, we do not know.

On August 4th, he had surgery to have a tracheostomy and PEG tube placed as no intensive rehabilitations would accept him with an unstable airway. Our mother, Connie, was pushing for the best rehabilitation possible -- but, as a veteran, he would be forced to potentially leave out of state for inpatient rehab. I was vehemently against this, and our mother is now looking into home rehab with 24 hour care.

This is where we, as a family, need your help. My mother is a foster parent and has already adopted three high risk children - all while retired. It is unknown how much this will cost or what the insurance will even provide. All proceeds for this will go to supplies and paying for the caregivers that will be on-site all day and night.
