My brother has been facing a series of difficult challenges. He was already off work due to disability and living at my mother's house, relying on Social Security to get by. In January, his benefits were stopped because they said he was overpaid after working too many hours before his disability. This left him without a steady income and struggling to make ends meet.
Then, tragedy struck when a fire broke out at my mom's house. My brother lost everything he owned in the fire. While my mother had insurance to cover temporary housing and repairs, my brother did not. The insurance only covers one person for temporary housing, so my mother is staying with me, and my brother is in a hotel paid for by the insurance—but only until the end of the month. The house may not be ready by then, and we're not sure if my brother will even be able to return to live with my mom after the repairs are finished.
He has reached out to the Red Cross and the VA for help, but neither could provide shelter. The VA gave him a tent and a few gift cards, and the Red Cross gave him a debit card, but that won't last long. My brother needs help to cover housing, gas, groceries, toiletries, and clothes as he tries to rebuild his life. Any help you can provide will mean the world to us. Even if you can just give a few bucks, it all adds up, and my family and I will be extremely grateful.
