On Sunday August 31st my brother Carlo was in a terrifying car accident when his brakes failed on State Route 28 near Carson City. He did everything he could — pulling the emergency brake to try to stop the car — and then, even with a fractured back, painful burns, deep cuts, and heavy bruising, He put out the fire in his car and climbed a hill in shock to get help.
He is now out of the hospital, but recovery will be long and difficult. He is in good spirits but cannot do minimal things right now and he cannot even help with simple but important tasks — like stacking wood for our grandmother’s winter heat. My brother has always been the one to step up for our elderly grandma, especially since our grandfather passed and right now, he’s heartbroken that he physically can’t be there for her.
While our family is grateful he is alive, the medical bills and daily living expenses are piling up. We are asking for help so he can focus on healing and so we can fill the gap he’s left at home while caring for our grandma.
Every donation will go toward:
• Medical and follow up care expenses
• Wound care and treatment for his injuries
• Essential living costs during his recovery
• Help with caregiving support for our grandma while he cannot assist
Even if you cannot donate, sharing his story would mean so much. Thank you for standing with our family — we are grateful for every bit of kindness and support during this difficult time.
With gratitude,
The Berti family
***I want to take a moment to clear something up, because I know many people have seen or heard the false information that was originally put out by Nevada State Police about my brother’s accident.
That information was wrong. They claimed “speed and bald tires” were to blame. The truth is, his brakes failed. He pulled the emergency brake and did everything he could to slow down. Even with his injuries, his first instinct was to put out the fire in his car and climb a hill for help.
Nevada State Police has since removed all their posts, but the damage from that false information has been painful for our family. Please know the truth: my brother is alive today because of his courage and determination, not because of recklessness.
We are focusing now on his recovery and helping him heal.
Thank you to everyone who has stood with us, prayed for him, donated, or shared his story. Your support means more than we can ever say.
