Help My Brother Become a Firefighter

My brother is a born again Christian who recovered from addiction and homelessness, and he is determined to turn his life around. After facing significant challenges, he is now focused on building a brighter future for himself and those around him. I watched him truly step out on faith from a life surrounded by darkness into the unknown to find his way to the light. He had no idea how things would possibly work out for him… all he had was a bus ticket and a destination away from his old life. By God’s grace, through ways we couldn’t have imagined, good friends and kind strangers along the way, every obstacle was moved and things fell into perfect place day by day as he made his journey.

He has been accepted into a training program at Columbia College to earn his Cal-Fire certifications, which will open doors to a meaningful career in firefighting and community service. However, being from New York, he is not eligible for state aid in California—only federal aid, which will cover just a portion of his expenses. The total cost for the training program and student housing is more than he can cover with federal aid alone, leaving a significant gap that he needs to in order to secure stable housing and continue his education. With his temporary housing situation expiring, he is facing the real possibility of having to stay in a homeless shelter while waiting for the summer session to begin in May.
Despite these challenges, my brother remains hopeful and motivated. He sees this as a pivotal moment—a true second chance to make a positive change. Most importantly, his faith in God and being saved is the fundamental reason for this transformation in his life, and he is deeply grateful for this second chance. He is especially inspired by these words from Paul which remind him that being reborn in the mind is the key to a new life: "Be not conformed to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

His dream is not only to become a firefighter, but also to mentor younger people, especially those at risk, and to eventually serve as a fire chaplain. He wants to use his experiences to help others avoid the pitfalls he faced and to inspire them to pursue meaningful, fulfilling lives.

Your support during this critical time will provide him with the stability and opportunity he needs to succeed. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help him move closer to his goals and empower him to give back to the community in the future. Thank you so much for considering a donation to help my brother on his journey.
